Notional Friday Five

1. What is your favorite quilting notion? Are rotary cutters a notion? If so, I would say my pink rotary cutters, I am inordinately fond of them.

2. What was the last notion you purchased? a pincushion, of all things - also one of those round things that bobbins go in

3. What notion have you purchased and don't or rarely use? I think there's a lot of these - a chalk marker comes to mind right off the bat. I like to buy notions, but I don't always use them as much as I think.

4. Do you have a wearable notion? I have a couple of those things that attach your scissors to your clothing, does that count? Oh, and my aunt made me a chatelaine for Christmas.

5. What do you consider a notion? hmm... just about anything for sewing that's not the fabric or the sewing machine, I guess!

What is a chatelaine?

I have one of the scissor attachment things, but I have never used it for anything other than fidgeting with.

Well, I couldn't think how to define it, so I googled it, and got this partial Encyclopedia Brittanica page, which is interesting, and I think gives you the basic idea, really. (Webster's just says "a clasp or hook for a watch, purse, or bunch of keys") So basically it's just something that you hang a bunch of stuff from - in this case, sewing supplies. I've seen various designs, but the one my aunt made me is just a long piece of wide woven ribbon - a couple of inches wide and maybe 18" long? - with a small pincushion, etc, attached to it. If I can dig it out (I am moving soon and my sewing stuff is mostly all packed up!) I will take a picture. I haven't used mine so far but I might, later.
